In which people will perform well, be talked up, and fall apart down under. Sigh. Anyway, Crane, Woakes, and (finally) Stoneman in, Jennings and Dawson oot. Malan keeps his place. Thoughts?

Worried that stoneman might not take his chance having only played a couple of times in the last month.

West Indies' Test squad Jason Holder (capt), Kraigg Braithwaite (vice-capt), Devendra Bishoo, Jermaine Blackwood, Roston Chase, Miguel Cummins, Shane Dowrich, Shannon Gabriel, Shimron Hetmyer, Kyle Hope, Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph, Kieran Powell, Raymon Reifer, Kemar Roach
West Indies players to watch:
Kraigg Braithwaite - Proper Test opener. Hope brothers - Good batsmen, but slightly inconsistent. Shane Dowrich - Obdurate batsman and Keeper. Alzarri Joseph and Shannon Gabriel - Fast bowlers, 90 mph plus.

Can't leave out Chase Humair! Him and Dowrich are basically the reasons WI might draw a Test. I'd include Braithwaite normally, but against Anderson in this mood, any opener is a liability. Crane has presumably been promoted to first spinner over Moeen Ali.

I like the look of Roston Chase, has something about him. So Rashid out in the cold it seems, Yorkshire gain hopefully.

It'll be an actually decent Test average Lawrence.
For all the plaudits that Hales was getting the other day, even the WI can score runs against this Derbyshire attack!

Watched him last year on sky against India. In his 2nd test he had a 5 for and 137 not out, just looked special.

1st Test team confirmed, Crane and Woakes left out, as expected to be honest. Hopefully they're both allowed to play county stuff on Friday, Crane in particular having been one of the best in the country in the t20s so far

It's the Blast, who cares? I'm going to the T20 tomorrow (with work) and I still don't care about the cricket on offer! But this was the sensible team. Hopefully Crane got something out of being around the squad, and hopefully Woakes is fully fit soon enough. I still feel that a 5678 of Moe Stoe Bairstoe and Woe would be enough to win many matches (especially with Joe at 4 and someone (anyone) half-decent at two and three).

My main worry is that the Windies are colossally shit and each test is over too easily. Hope pink ball test works at least to an extent, there will always be improvements that can be made, but something has to change if test cricket is to work long term (though i'd personally start by giving a bit more money to the poorer cricket associations......)

If the Windies are colossally shit, what does that make Stoneman?

If the Windies are colossally shit, what does that make Stoneman? And indeed Westley?
