The Women's World Cup starts this Saturday with England taking on India at Derby. The tournament consists of 8 teams playing in a round-robin format followed by semi-finals and a final, the teams playing in the tournament are England, Australia, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, West indies and Sri Lanka. Hopefully England win the tournament, but even more important is that the improvement in women's cricket is showcased to a wider audience. Sky Sports will be showing 14 matches live, while the rest of the matches will be shown on the ICC website. Bad start to the tournament for England losing to India with an extremely sloppy and clumsy performance. While in the other match New Zealand trash Sri Lanka by 9 wickets.

That Smriti Mandhana looks a cracking player, if India can get into women's cricket in a big way (and the Indian public like winners, that's what really kick started the T20 boom) then that's great news for everyone.
I'm actually going to the England/Windies game in Bristol in a few weeks time and potentially the Oz game as well, ticket prices are exceptionally reasonable and I'm taking my other half and a few friends, so hopefully a bit of indoctrination into cricket!

Apart from the mysoginists I always see shooting down women's cricket on Cricinfo. So, everyone of import then. Only, do England have to be thrashed quite so thoroughly in the process?

With 3 matches left for each team to play, it is between New Zealand, England, Australia, India and South Africa for the 4 semi-final places.

Not taking any satisfaction from watching India being drubbed by SA. Nope.

Huge result, was worried as this morning England were 5th and the three games left were the three other teams to automatically qualify for WC. Now we're top

Not the greatest start from England. Like, at all. India showing them how it should be done (woeful run rate aside).

Yup, Nat's been particularly Sciver-e on their bowling...
Meanwhile, oh dear Sri Lanka. Oh dear.
