Brilliant TRJ indeed! I feel Philander is the deciding factor in this series, South Africa seem the best team when he's there but he's missed about half of it it feels...
Liked Boycott's comments saying new batsmen in the team should be averaging 50+ in FC... Trouble is there are barely any that average 45... But I do question putting Malan, Westley, Stoneman, Jennings etc into the team when their averages are 35-38. Sure, they can play the odd good innings but not as consistent as your Roots and Cooks. Trouble is I guess the batting talent pool is a little thin at the moment

Westley I understand, lots of success against touring sides and averaging 50+ in the past two years. Malan seems a bit left field, and there's a reason Stoneman hasn't been picked yet. Looking forward to seeing how Lawrence and Clarke do in a few years time.
Delighted for TRJ, and very pleased to see Stokes reach his ton.

Malan is a mystery, not sure what's going on there. With openers I think you have to acknowledge that they're going to have a lower average than most in England. The other problem with averages is that you end up picking Gary Ballance forever.

Not just England with a lack of mental fortitude these days!

Having a third seamer who takes wickets and a number 3 who looks solid really helps.

Not just England with a lack of mental fortitude these days! It's not easy batting in the fourth innings facing a mountain of runs.

Thought you'd be saying Lyth after today's rescue act Lawrence.

Nick Browne would be my choice. But I can see why having slow scoring Essex players at 1, 2 and 3 wouldn't be popular. On that note, Dan Lawrence can't be far off...

Burns and Robson perhaps the other possibilitiesy.
Nice of England to give South Africa some hope for the game/series.
