Australia started their 4-match test series in India today by reaching stumps on 256-9, a pretty good score on a pitch taking a lot of spin. A very assured 68 from Matt Renshaw and a breezy fifty from Starc.

Australia's difference seems to be that they have a half-decent spinner. Kohli out for a duck never hurts either.

Make that two half-decent spinners. Garry and SOK are miles ahead. It was some fantastic bowling by SOK. Three wickets in an over ripped the batting to shreds as India lose 7 wickets for 11 runs. Credit to Starc for dismissing the best Indian batsman (Pujara) and taking another wicket in the same over. Fantastic and riveting stuff here, as Australians take their lead to more than 225.
Smith's century was a gem of an innings, and SOK and Garry picked up all 10 wickets to seal a memorable victory for the Australians.

It was an amazing performance from Australia, but I think India will fight back in the next test. Fantastic bowling from O'keefe, who now has the second best bowling figures for an overseas player in india.

Unbelievable day for Australia bowling India out for 189 and getting to the close of play no wickets down.

...Australia are the best team in the world again, aren't they? I swear they were rebuilding barely months ago. How do they do it?

Some solid batting by Renshaw and Marsh I sees Australians gain a lead of 48 runs, with 4 wickets in hand.
Well, these games just go to show not only how good Aussies are playing, but also is a reflection of how much crap England were. Australia is making India look ordinary in home conditions and that makes England like an Associate country. And we thought that the winter Ashes would be a stroll, didn't we?

Amazing what some applied batting and a decent spinner can achieve.

Two decent spinners. One's tolerable, two (unless it's a subcontinental team) just seems excessive.

India fight back to win the game and draw level. Honours even, going into the last two games. They said Pune's pitch was bad. This one was actually abysmal in terms of uneven bounce, spin and carry.

Well well well. Maxwell finally comes good in Tests. Who'da thunk it. (Steve Smith no longer gets recognition for doing well.)

All talk of Aus-Ind series, the other two tests are/were super exciting. Keshav Maharaj finished NZ off and Bangladesh are in a strong position against SL in what could turn out to be a landmark test for either of the teams. And this one? Maybe we should watch this once India prepare a decent enough surface. Barring one or two that overbounce, it has been lifeless.

Fantastic historic win for Bangladesh on their 100th test match, while Australia lose their chance of winning the series after a Pujara special.
