Aruguable, certainly. I am hoping that he can make a difference. Even if he bowls below-par he would still score as many runs as Gaz Baz. That's a positive for sure, right?

OT: Balladeer! We should have some threads for music and such fun stuff (if we do not have already) You know, like music, films, art, books, and stuff (so that we can have a place to hide when our team takes a beating)

This is giving me a shock treatment. Now, why are people so bleak about England's chances? Sure, they drew the series that everyone expected them to win and sure, they will play in more dust bowls and rank turners, but then if it is as bad as they say it is, why not give 5-0 walkover to India, shake hands and catch a plane back? This is just utter underestimation of England's players. Just remember that 'Mighty India' lost the ODI series to Bangladesh.

England's problem is the same as Yorkshire and Worcs' problem, they've got a really strong team on paper, it's just that it's exceedingly rare to see all of that talent actually come together and play to their ability. Test match after test match we've seen the same thing we saw in County Cricket; these situations where one or two guys would step up when the team is in real trouble. It makes perfect sense that people would be negative about them because it eventually came back to bite Worcs and Yorks in the arse and naturally many expect it will England as well. I'm not negative at all though, I think they're gonna win, but it doesn't shock me that people are. That's why I'm so fascinated by the series. If England put it all together India is in for a real shock. If not, I think it'll be back to the proverbial drawing board for England and the artists in charge seem to be running pretty bereft of new ideas at the moment.

There's a sub-forum at the bottom of the forum for that, but it's all sports and vidjagames at the moment.

The same reason India always predict 4-0 or a whitewash of any kind when they go abroad because they don't have players who handle those conditions and more than anything else are up against a team that thrives in their own backyard.
Since 2013 India are the only team to have not lost a single test at home, speaks of how good they are and also the nature of pitches and having the right players for the conditions.
More than anything else, I think they have the feeling, if a teenage off spinner on debut can take 18 wickets in two matches against a left-hand heavy batting line up then they shudder to think what an off spinner in his prime who thrives on the pitches he is likely to get will end up with in five matches
But hey that may just be me.

For everything, there is a first time Personally I just can't wait for the start of the series. - EDIT: Wait, I also wanted to post something. Was it Ganguly's opinion that he wouldn't be picking Anderson in the squad or that Ronaldo signed yet another contract that makes him earn even more obscene money. And we all contribute to his wage. Sigh. Sometimes it boils down to a point where it isn't even worth contemplating what future would look like.

Hameed to open in Rajkot, Duckett to 4. Sanity prevails.
Spare a thought for Gaz Baz... shortly before bidding him farewell and good riddance.

FINALLY! Haseeb Hameed will make his debut in Rajkot test. He will replace Gaz Baz and will open, with Duckett set to take No 4 spot in the batting lineup. Let's hope its 12th (?) time lucky for England with their opening combination. I am trying to guess all the others tried out: Robson, Carberry, Root, Trott, Compton, Ali, Lyth, Hales, Duckett and now Hameed. Who is the player that I missed? Also, Hameed will be the first player in recent times to play a test before playing a List-A game. EDIT: After some intense research, I found that Hameed is Cook's 10th opening partner. Nemo, I think it was in Lancs game vs Middlesex that he opened and hit 26 runs, and the score was 26/1 when he was out

Look how tiny he is! Compared to Stokes or someone.

This is the right team for the first test... in Bangladesh. Giving Gaz Baz two tests to prove what we already knew (that he was horribly low on confidence) has cost Hameed the chance to get any debut nerves out of the way.
I think *technically* Aneesh, Buttler opened for one innings in a chase once. Not sure that really counts, but it would work for inflating the stats.

Well as a Yorkshire supporter it hurts to see Ballance struggle so much, he started with a blaze of glory, and it happens too often with England Batsman. Still picked when he was clearly out of form and struggling with his game, cant help but think a bowler would have lost his place long time before. Will be a hard slog to get back to his best but I hope he does:(

Happy that Hameed will debut, but it will be hard for him to perform straight away against Ashwin and Jadaja.

Looks like fun! And it's possible that I'm a big old dummy, but it keeps telling me the secret key is wrong. Anyone else having trouble?
