And is Rohit as bad in the game as his Youtube clips show? He is nowhere near Bell, let alone Gower or Laxman, More brute than silken skill.

he is shit. a flat track bully in LO and since there are no flat tracks in Tests, he's crap. But supposedly he has talent and looks elegant.
As you can sense from my tone, my loathing and how happy I am that he is out (at least in Tests).

Indeed, BBC were repeatedly telling that he is a dangerous batsman and holds the record for most runs scored in a single innings in ODIs. His test innings rather fade. Looks like Vince to me, get a pretty 30 and throw the wicket away.

He's better than Vince, i ll give him that. But ya he is a completely different player in LO but in Tests despite multiple chances he hasn't done well and batting at no.6, he sort of screws up the balance of the team as well while not performing well enough.

More like Nick Knight for me (if people do remember Knight), who was also very good in ODIs and bollocks in tests.

I'd say more Hales to be current.

Seen the news on cricinfo about BCCI memoing the ECB asking them to cover the costs of the tour as the Lodhi committee can't allow them to enter into contractual agreements yet, wonder what the ECB response will be? Relegate India to non test status? Imagine it'll just be temporary, but could cause some kerfuffle

BCCI and Wikileaks are the two organizations who can't keep their and others' shit together respectively.

"This England team is far from perfect, but there is something admirable about their willingness to confront their failings and their desire to improve" - from Cricinfo.
It looks like Buttler will be in the squad for Ballance, as Hameed is not what the selectors want at No 4 and they are going to stick with Duckett for a while at No 2.

A quick though, what if Ballance was actually with Zimbabwe team now, grinding it out against the Lankans? He might have had an excellent career with them, of course he could still have an excellent career but still... If Zim play more cricket (and sort their system out) they will keep hold of other up and coming talents. And if two division cricket were in vogue, they would certainly play more games. Another salute to BCCI and friends.

I do think lesser nations should get more cricket, but Zimbabwe has much deeper problems than games in retaining players, hence players like Jarvis and Taylor coming over to England without any chance of playing internationals. Total economic collapse and vindictive cronyism at board level does not a coming power make.

Zimbabwe were once everybody's second team. I still remember watching Dougie Marillier bashing India's Zaheer and Harbhajan to script a memorable victory and came just short of defeating the all-conquering Australians. Those two played the ODI World Cup final at that time. For those that haven't seen him play, he batted AB De Villiers and bowled tidy offspin (Dasher + Spinner = England call up?) Not only him, there were many superb players like Flower brothers, Campbell, Carlisle, Streak, Ebrahim, Taibu and Blignaut. That team were a decent bet against any team and would go T20 mode in ODIs. Today's team is not even a shade of the great early noughties team and its quite a fall from grace. Very sad to see them toil so hard for games. Board is to take a massive part of blame for sure.

On a much more positive note, it looks like Anderson will join the team for the second test.

Much more positive? Let's not get ahead of ourselves. He's very capable of bowling below par for an innings and then going off injured, à la Steyn, if he's rushed back in. Especially in sapping conditions.

"He's very capable of bowling below par for an innings and then going off injured, à la Steyn, if he's rushed back in." Shit, now I'm confused. Is that arguable or not?
