Came up with this structure, please tell me what you think?
1. County Championship
• 3 groups of 6 each, teams put into groups by end of season position.
• I love the current setup, but to improve the cricket and to reduce the amount of cricket I think this is necessary.
• Even in division 1 right now, there is a big difference between the top 5 or 6 sides, and the bottom 3 sides, so by having sides that are similar to each other play against each other should improve the cricket.
• Each team would play ten games, three in April, two in May, two in June, two in August and one in September.
• In this way, there would be a week in between most championship rounds.
• All championship rounds would be played at the same time (Monday – Thursday), with every team playing in each championship round.
• The week in between championship rounds would be used for second eleven cricket, with more players available to play, it would rise second eleven cricket and help the youngsters improve.
• England Lions matches would be organized in these weeks, so that counties would not lose their best players while playing championship matches.
2. 50 over Knockout Trophy
• I used to really like the knockout tournament with the minor counties and there needs to be a 50-over tournament.
• 32 team tournament – 18 counties, plus 12 minor counties and maybe two associate or affiliate sides.
• Each round happens over a weekend.
• Round 1 (32 teams) – round played in April
• Round 2 (16 teams) – round played in May
• Round 3 (quarter – final) – round played in June
• Round 4 (semi-final) – round played in August
• Round 5 (Final) – round played in September
• Final played in third week of September
3. RL Trophy (50 overs)
• 3 groups of 6 each
• I would have the same groups as the county championships, so that each championship match would be followed up with a pro 50 match with the same team on the weekend.
• Each team would play 10 games.
• This would stop the ridiculous travelling of the teams, and everyone (fans) would know exactly who everyone is playing and when.
• I would keep the quarter finals, semi – final and the final the same as it is now. They would be held in second week of September.
4. Twenty 20
• 18 county sides plus Scotland and Holland
• 4 randomly selected groups of 5
• each team plays home and away with each other
• Group stage followed by quarterfinals and then the finals day.
• The whole tournament completed in July
• Increase overseas players to 3 or 4.
Or, have a 6 team franchise structure
