All of the England contenders (Vince, Ballance, Lyth, Bell, Compton) have failed... While all of the certs (Cook, Root, Bairstow, Anderson) have done really well!

Also Prasad seems to be injured, again.

No #RobsonforEngland - instead, the most predictable 12-man squad possible. Compton hangs on, Vince replaces Taylor (in as far as anybody can), Ball as the bowler who won't play. Move on, move on, nothing to see here.

The test squad is indeed, dull, but the performance squad is a bit more interesting:
England 30-man Performance Squad
Moeen Ali* (Worcestershire) James Anderson* (Lancashire) Zafar Ansari (Surrey) Jonny Bairstow** (Yorkshire) Jake Ball (Nottinghamshire) Gary Ballance** (Yorkshire) Ian Bell* (Warwickshire) Sam Billings (Kent) Stuart Broad* (Nottinghamshire) Jos Buttler* (Lancashire) Nick Compton** (Middlesex) Alastair Cook* (Essex) Tom Curran (Surrey) Liam Dawson (Hampshire) Steven Finn* (Middlesex) Mark Footitt (Surrey) Alex Hales** (Nottinghamshire) Chris Jordan** (Sussex) Eoin Morgan* (Middlesex) Jamie Overton (Somerset) Liam Plunkett** (Yorkshire) Adil Rashid** (Yorkshire) Joe Root* (Yorkshire) Jason Roy** (Surrey) Ben Stokes* (Durham) Reece Topley (Hampshire) James Vince (Hampshire) David Willey** (Yorkshire) Chris Woakes** (Warwickshire) Mark Wood* (Durham)
*England Centrally Contracted **England Incrementally Contracted
Bell, Curran, Dawson, Footitt, JOverton (!) perhaps the most interesting inclusions. Browne, Westley, Patel among the notable exclusions

COverton and Westley the big omissions for me (Cove mostly because Jove is in there. PAAAAAAAYYYYYYYCE). Jove and Curran the only real surprises.
That said, I'm somewhat surprised about some of the incremental contracts - Bairstow, Roy, Hales, Bell? Or have they just not been updated yet?

It's odd, in terms of performance, the Somerset young pace rankings would definitely go Gregory>Cove>Jove but it's absolutely reversed when it comes to England selectorial decisions.
I think the contracts haven't been updated, and Bairstow and Hales will definitely get upgraded shortly as they play tests.

Central contracts run from October 2015 to September 2016. Bairstow and Hales (if he keeps his place) will likely get central contracts for the next year.

Thanks for clarifying Lord Matt. Imagine Bell might get an incremental next year, if that.

Thirimanne continuing to impress with the bat. Out for 6 to the Leics. second XI.
Kusal Mendis might make the starting XI purely through not being utter sh*te.

It may be a Leics Second XI but Sri Lanka sure are making hard work of it.

192/8 at one stage, even Hampshire can do better than that sometimes...

Burgess out for 98! A first first-class century goes begging.

Confirmed that Dhammika Prasad will miss the first Test.
While I don't want to go flinging terms like "mediocre" around, after the effect that had last time, there's really very little excuse for England to do anything but win this series. Unless Angelo plays an absolute blinder.

Triple post: ready the discussion pods! I have no meetings today, so I'll be happily plugging myself into TMS for the start of the game.

On the other hand, today is a nightmare day for a test to start as I have a meeting at 2 for which I need to travel, and the train is at 11. I should be back home by about half six.
Bit of a cock up that.
On the other hand, I have just bought tickets for the Sunday of the Lords test, which I think is Day 4. Don't let me down Sri Lanka... (or England, to avoid tempting fate)
