The amount just shows how big a mess the county game is in if teams need that sort of money

McCullum for the one-day stuff isn't bad. Isn't bad at all.

A couple captaincy changes today. Trescothick stepping down for Chris Rogers (CC) and Jim Allenby (LO), as well as Varun Chopra making way for Ian Bell.

I know that Middlesex are traditionally hopeless at white-ball, but Malan's strong performances for the Lions are giving me just a wee bit of hope for the ODC this year...

What are people's thoughts on Gayle coming to Somerset, then? I know Nemo's been more than a bit sceptical in the other thread. Just glad to see his talent, or slightly irked by his personality touching down in the UK?

Oh, I'm not sceptical of his ability whatsoever, I just think he's a bit of an arse. Lots of fantastic sportsman are totally unpleasant.
I'm hoping that the Yang of Rogers being around the whole season is more influential on our young lads than the Yin of Gayle flying in for a few T20 smashes.

The whole BBL affair was pretty unsavoury. Personally it soured me on his character, he seemed a bit of a pillock. However, he has tremendous ability and always brings something extra to a tournament so I don't mind him coming over here.

See, regardless of a person's ability, it always sours their achievements for me if they turn out to be a bit of an arse. I can't separate art and artist. I like Jimmy less because he's a stroppy little bugger. If Jade Dernbach started playing for Middlesex I'd seriously consider my allegiance.

I like Jimmy more for being a grump, it's an empathy thing.
