Here's a fun topic to tide you over until the Test tomorrow. Who are your five favourite currently operating (at any stage of the professional game) players, for whatever reasons, no matter how petty? And your five least favourite? Subject to change, natch.
Favourite
1. Mark Wood: Mostly because of the imaginary horse. 2. Moeen Ali: Beautiful stroke player, part-time spinner who's continually better than part-time, immensely calm off the field, great representative for the game, and has the beard. What's not to love? 3. Laura Woolvardt: Looks like Wednesday Addams in her Cricinfo photo., plays like Jonathan Trott in his pomp (even in LO), and is 18. Needs to get more Tests. 4. Nat Sciver: The women's game is continually criticised for its lack of explosive cricket. Then there's Nat. 5. (After much thought) Rangana Herath: Looks like he could be a bus conductor. Takes all the wickets.
Least Favourite
1. Chris Gayle: T20 franchise cricketer with an ego disproportionate to his talent and a habit of being casually sexist. 2. Virat Kohli: Sorry Sri. Feels like a spoiled brat, and gets lumped in with Kane, Root, and Smith despite being (or feeling to me anyway) much worse in Tests. Overrated. 3. Jade Dernbach: No explanation required. 4. Ellyse Perry: Plays every sport with her eyes shut, writes books in her spare time, is blonde and willowy. If she were English I'd be grudgingly overjoyed to have her in the team. She's Australian. 5. (After even more thought) MS Dhoni: Even more sorry Sri! Gave up Tests as his first format and continually talks up the IPL. Don't dislike him that much, but then I don't dislike most cricketers that much and he's the worst of the rest.
Feel free to rip my choices to shreds too. What English favouritism?

Favourite
0. Misbah(might play in the PSL): Misbah 1. Fawad Alam: Character 2. The Fizz: Unbelievable talent 3. Rashid Khan: Fantastic bowler and an associate player. 4. Kane Williamson: Graceful on and off the field. 5. Moeen Ali: Wonderful role model.
Least Favourite
1. Virat Kohli: Annoyingly good. 2. Ravindra Jadeja: Seems really arrogant. 3. KP: Can't stand him. 4. Chris Gayle: Off-field antics. 5. Suresh Raina: Massively over-rated.

Please do, Matt, I had to!
Hi sir (as Autocorrect calls Humair), I considered Jadeja, but decided I didn't know quite enough about him. Considered KP too, but he feels like too much of an obsolescence. Don't know much about Fawad, any top Fawad moments you can give us?

Favourites: 1: Alastair Cook - Came along roughly when I started watching cricket, been (one of) England's best ever since. 2: Michael Carberry - Hampshire. Underrated by England. Fighter. Legend. 3: Rashid Khan - What a talent, what a monobrow, second only to Karthik from the apprentice. Can't wait to see him in Tests. 4: Nat Sciver - Those two hundreds in the WC, phenomenal. The Natmeg. 5: Bradley Wadlan - Cricket Captain legend in many versions. FC Stats 32 with the bat, 16 with the ball, currently ripping up the minor counties for Cornwall. Least Favourites: 1: Kohli - Too good 2: Joe Leach - Honestly not sure why... the grunt? 3: Fidel Edwards - Ability to flicker between these two lists. But he's here because he gets injured every other game. Harsh reasoning but it annoys me 4: Jade Dernbach - Just an angry, angry man, who somehow snuck into the England team 58 times 5: Jason Roy - I just think he's overrated

Nice 5th WaP! Cook would be considered for mine, but the whole hunting thing leaves a sour taste in my mouth. As for Fidel, harsh petty reasoning's what this topic is all about.

Favourite: (hard this one, as i'd like to pick a few Yorkies but after last year, meh)
1 Am I still allowed Sanga? Not only a legend but an incredible human who really has cricket in his heart. Last year in the county championship was just ridiculous, it was like he was playing in an u16 tournament such was the ease with which he batted 2 YJB. Those 2 seasons where he was in a purple patch and not married to the ECB were ridiculous, and i'm so so glad that he's nailed down his place in the England side. 3 AB Love watching him bat an immense fielder too, can happily watch him in all formats 4 Dale Steyn, such a shame he's been a crock recently, a proper fast angry hostile bowler, best in the world when fit! 5 Ryan Sidebottom, OK another one who may not be 'current' but as the new season hasn't started yet i'm having him. We are going to really miss him next season, great pro, great bowler and a great chap
Can't stand list:
* - special mention for the BCCI as a whole, holding cricket and cricket development back (ECB and CA up there too, the money hungry bastards)
1 Andrew Strauss. Ok may not be playing at the moment, but complicit in the shambles that is county cricket at the moment 2 Virat Kohli, very good, very very good and he knows it, constantly acts like an entitled princess, particularly in the last test 3 Gayle/Pollard/Bravo etc. Basically all the WI players who have sacked off international cricket to play T20s round the world. OK, they aren't the only ones at fault, not by a long way, and the WICB are a disgrace, but a strong West Indies would really help test cricket 4 Stuart Broad. STOP WASTING THE FUCKING NEW BALL AND STOP SHITTING YOURSELF WHEN FACING QUICK BOWLERS. He should be so much better than he is, and for me, been stealing a living as a guaranteed starter for England these past few years 5 David Warner, what a prick. Wouldn't mind him acting le'dickhead if he was 'all that' players like McGrath could get away with it because they were ace, but he's alright and nothing more.

Very cheeky man, Pierre - at least two non-currents! Your Broad entry made me laugh, though, so I’ll let you off.
Kohli: officially the forum’s most hated player, ahead of Jade Dernbach. Well well. I will grudgingly admit he’s pretty good at Tests these days though.
Also, considering substituting Dhoni out for Rohit Sharma. What’s that? He’s got another Test over better Test players? And he’s ballsed it up again? What a chuffing surprise.

Favorite 1. MS Dhoni - What is not to like? Took India from being a one-man team to being a team that won things. Put the team above him at all times. 2. Kane Williamson - No doubt about him being the best batsman of his era. Flawless technique, need I say more. 3. Ben Stokes - The man is the greatest all-rounder of his time (although there is little competition) and love his ability to walk the talk and the fact that he was one of my earliest interviews and was such a nice guy is an added bonus. 4. Michael Klinger - Far too many to count. Captain Klingon to lead the free world. 5. Alfonso Thomas - Now I know he's not technically current but hey others have got away with it so i guess I should too. T20 legend. Helped my beloved Perth Scorchers build an empire and I will never forget the game in which he and yasir arafat defended 20 in a T20 game in the last four overs.
Can't Stand 1. Rohit Sharma - ODI and T20I specialist who should be nowhere near the Test team but "talent" gets him over the line all the time. 2. Kohli - Yes he will go on to be the second greatest ODI batsman of all-time (after Viv)but too much of a pedant for my liking and having seen a captain remain silent in defeat and victory for 10 years can't stand someone who keeps shouting and screaming after every wicket like he has won the world cup. 3. Hardik Pandya - Incredibly overrated. Doesn't deserve to be anywhere near Test side and can't bowl to save his life yet he is Kapil Dev's second coming apparently. The fact that he has a horrible hairstyle doesn't help his cause either. 4 - Root. Incredibly talented but can't buy a century and the fact that he is often over-hyped by the English media does his cause no favor. 5 - Smith - Because I hate his technique and he is just too good in Tests.

I’m going to have to come down hard on all these rule-breakers. Don’t rate Mike Bevan Sri? Also you’re much less partial to your national side than we seem to be! Favorite 1. MS Dhoni - What is not to like? See first post of thread.

Songster, your hatred for IPL knows no bounds. In any case, he knew his time was up. He was no longer cutting it as Test captain and he was never going to be in the side for his batting alone if he gave up captaincy so he just retired. That's called going away from the game before being pushed out. Pure class.
And I thought this was current so no Bevan.
I call a spade a spade. Irrespective of whether that is Indian, English or Aussie.
Oh and if you are going to do that then I'd happily replace Alfonso Thomas with Paul Collingwood (first for his fielding as a youngster growing up, then his batting and forever for being Durham's finest)

Excellent fifth choice. Re. Bevan, I meant best ODI batsmen of all time. You mention Viv then Kohli.
