Looks like Afghanistan as a test playing nation, and potentially as a white ball playing nation are fucked for the foreseeable future. So so sad. Awful isn't it? I don't really know what the right answer is, can't lend credibility to the Taliban but feels so harsh on Rashid Khan and his peers. Could they play under an ICC flag like the Russian Olympians? Would they even want to? Otherwise there's going to be a hell of a race to naturalise Rashid. Conversation seems to fit better in here. Lots of chatter about this on the Grauniad liveblog the other day. The consensus, which I agree with, is that Afghanistab need to have Test status removed. To do otherwise would be unfair and invites unfavourable comparisons with apartheid. As for the rest of it, I don't have an answer there. I really feel for Rashid et al. I hate T20 leagues and everything they've done to the game, but the fact that they could still earn a living because of them is one undeniable upside.

As tough as it is, there cannot be men's cricket without women's cricket. The taliban won't give the tiniest shit, so the players, male and female alike will suffer. I hope that many afghani cricketers, male and female, will manage to get out and seek asylum elsewhere.

England follow NZ in calling off the trip to Pakistan.
It's a tough one. Fundamentally, security isn't something to take lightly and the rise of the Taliban in neighbouring Afghanistan feels very unlikely to be unrelated, particularly as (geo-politics alert), Pakistan hasn't always covered itself in glory in that area.
But they came to England during the height of Covid and put up with every self-isolation condition we could give them.
Between that and England-India and NZ-Pakistan, this feels like a breaking point in quite a few ICC relationships.

Gross shithousery aside, imagine having different journalistic standards from George Dobell and thinking that reflects well on you.

Not a great look for the ECB when the your own diplomatic service feels the need to distance itself from you

Everyone involved in sitting on this report can absolutely, unequivocally go and fuck themselves. I genuinely hope the ECB get medieval on our ass, relegate us, massive points deduction, strip us of tests etc because this is an absolute bloody disgrace

Dobell's back. Cricinfo are about to lose their best reporter, and county cricket one of its strongest voices, but he's going to take Yorkshire's senior management with him you'd think.
Astonishing article today - YCCC suggesting equivalence with Zimbo and saying that Rafiq would be disciplined if he were still a Yorkshire player. Christ on a bike.
